CUP PLAY-BOOK

FOUR MOVES TO CUP GLORY

A cup contest is structured differently from a single-match fantasy. The play-book below walks through the four moves every serious cup manager makes between the league stage and the finals.

1

PICK THE BRACKET

Estimate which four franchises make the playoffs using season-form, head-to-head, and venue form tables.

2

LOCK THE CAPTAIN

Use venue-form captain math to pick your 2x before the toss. Cup-specific captain history matters more than season aggregates.

3

SCALE THE PRIZE

Pick your contest size: bronze ₹10, silver ₹50, gold ₹100. Bigger stakes mean bigger base but tougher rooms.

4

CLIMB THE LADDER

Knockout wins carry a 1.5x multiplier on the season leaderboard. Cup points stack — every match matters, every run counts.

CONTRAST PANELS

CUP vs STANDARD FANTASY

Two side panels showing where cup-style fantasy diverges from single-match contests. Use the panels below to decide which structure fits your risk appetite.

TOURNAMENT / CUP STYLE

Multi-round · Champion bracket

You enter once. Your team earns points across every match from league stage to finals. Top cumulative scorers split a fixed prize pool — typically the top 30% get paid, with first place taking 18-22%. The longer you survive in the cup, the bigger your share.

RoundMultiplier
League stage1.0x
Qualifier 11.2x
Eliminator1.3x
Qualifier 21.4x
Finals1.5x

SINGLE-MATCH FANTASY

One match · One shot

You build a fresh 11 before every match. Payout is per contest and settled at the toss result. Wins feel instant, losses vanish just as fast. Most cup managers run a small single-match portfolio in parallel to chase round-by-round wins.

REAL CUP WINNERS

Three tournament winners from previous seasons on how the cup felt from the bracket lead to the trophy lift.

I switched to cup contests after three straight single-match wins dried up. The knockout multiplier on Qualifier 2 carried me past 14,000 entries on finals night — best ₹42 lakh I ever put to use.

CUP SEASON 17 WINNER · ₹42 LAKH

The bracket math changes everything. I never picked the right captain for a single match — but in the cup, season-form and venue-form carry you through six rounds of grinding. That is the difference.

CUP QUESTIONS

Five core questions from new cup managers, answered with the actual cup ruleset instead of marketing fluff.

HOW IS THE CUP DIFFERENT FROM A SINGLE MATCH?

Single-match contests settle at the toss. Cup contests run across the entire IPL knockout stage — your team earns points in every match from league to finals, multiplied by round weight. The longer you stay in contention, the bigger your cumulative share of the prize pool.

WHAT IS THE KNOCKOUT MULTIPLIER?

Every cup contest applies a round multiplier on top of the base fantasy score. League stage: 1.0x. Qualifier 1: 1.2x. Eliminator: 1.3x. Qualifier 2: 1.4x. Finals: 1.5x. This means captain and impact-player picks on finals night are worth 50% more than the same picks would be on a regular league game.

CAN I JOIN MULTIPLE CUPS IN ONE SEASON?

Yes. Most cup managers run a bronze cup as practice, a gold cup as primary, and a silver cup as insurance. Each cup is independent — your bronze standings do not feed into your silver standings — but you can build one master team and clone it across cups.

WHEN DO I LOCK MY TEAM?

You can edit your cup team up to the toss of the first match in the cup window. After that, your lineup for every subsequent match in the cup is auto-locked. The only edit you can make mid-cup is the captain swap before each match's toss — no full-team rewrites.

WHAT HAPPENS IF THE CUP IS CANCELLED?

Entry fees are refunded in full within 4 hours of the cup cancellation notice. If a single match in the cup window is rained out and not replayed, that match is removed from the standings — no penalty, no points. If three or more matches are cancelled in a single cup window, the cup is fully refunded.

CUP SPOTLIGHTS

WHAT MAKES THE CUP BUILD DIFFERENT

Four narrative panels covering the cup-specific build decisions. Each panel highlights a calculation most fantasy managers skip in single-match contests but matters decisively in knockout-stage tournament play.

🎯CAPTAIN VOLATILITY EDGE

Cup fantasy rewards captain picks that swing big in one match. A captain scoring 60-plus in Qualifier 2 (1.4x round multiplier) plus 2x base point multiplier is worth 168 fantasy points for the round — enough to lift you from midfield into the top-10 of a 4,800-entry gold cup. Single-match contests cannot replicate this round stacking.

🥊KNOCKOUT IMPACT PLAYER

Impact player rule applies equally in cup and single-match contests, but the cup overlays change which impact-player choice matters. In the Eliminator, the impact-player swing is typically an extra seamer for a death-overs defense. In Qualifier 2, it is often an extra batter. In finals, it varies. Cup managers track each round’s likely impact-player swap.

📊PRIZE-POOL TOP-HEAVY

The cup prize pool is top-heavy. Top-5 in a gold cup take 50% of the pool. Top-10% take 80%. The bottom 50% of paid entries take 5% collectively. Cup manager math focuses on top-3 finishes, not on finishing in the paid band — the payout curve is too steep to settle for mid-pack.

🏆TROPHY-NIGHT PRESSURE

Finals night applies the highest round multiplier (1.5x) PLUS the highest-pressure death-overs bonus (1.2x on death-overs wickets PLUS 1.1x on finals innings). A captain who takes a hat-trick of wickets in finals death overs is worth roughly 4.5x base fantasy points. The single highest-value fantasy event in the entire IPL season.
